Am I going to Lose My Car if I File for Bankruptcy?

Clients often ask if they will lose their car if they file bankruptcy.  The answer is no.  As long as you have your payments current when you file your bankruptcy and your vehicle is fully insured you can keep your car.  If your car is already paid it usually fits within your allowable exemptions and you can keep it.  But here is a warning: don't transfer it to a friend or relative, it is the fastest way to lose your car.
